Who is eligible for Sonas Housing supported housing?
- The Sonas service is available to women who have been made homeless as a result of domestic violence and who have ended a relationship with an abusive partner. We work with a wide variety of women, including those with mental health, alcohol and drug-related problems.
- Due to the independent nature of the housing, applicants should be post-crisis and able to implement an agreed safety plan as necessary.
- The majority of applicants must be eligible for local authority housing. If you are unsure whether or not someone is eligible please contact us on 01 8349027 to discuss the circumstances.
- Please note that we will accept applications from a woman who is a joint tenant or a joint homeowner if she can show that the violent relationship has finished; that she is unable to have her partner removed from her home; and that she is unable to remain in her own home due to ongoing domestic violence.
- We will require a reference from the landlord of the tenant’s last permanent address. This may be a private individual or a local authority. Further information is available on our referral form. We also perform informal garda checks.
- We accept applications through referral agencies only. A referral agent could be your doctor, your social worker, your community welfare officer or the management team at your crisis refuge centre. However we also give advice to individuals over the phone. Please call 01 872 0068 ( Monday to Friday, 9.30am-5.30pm).
Application and referral forms are available to referring agencies by downloading them from this site or contacting us by telephone, email or post. You should read the application guidelines and below before proceeding with a referral. If you would like any advice or clarification, please contact us on 01 872 0068.
